Stupid Learning!

Ugh. So it is two weeks into the semester and I feel like I am doing the same old thing. Procrastinating. It’s ALWAYS something! It seems like every time I make a homework plan, something mysteriously comes up! Classes are crazy!

Astronomy 310. I am DROWNING in Astronomy, I struggle with math, I’ve always struggled with math….so Astronomy + Georgia = Epic Fail. Ugh. At least my prof sounds like he lives in Teletubbie land and wakes up every morning thinking the world is fabulous! I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone so excited about science…but I guess that’s a plus right? At least I won’t be afraid to attend office hours! Ugh. Still, I have attended six classes and cannot tell you one definitive thing about Astronomy 310. Thank you brain.

Latin. Latin is a whole other story. I worked my BUTT OFF last semester to do well in Latin all to have more and more and more and more piled on! I feel like Latin is a never-ending-story. Which I guess is what most languages are but still…common, they couldn’t have made it ANY easier? *Humph* So now, on top of trying to ‘survive’ Astronomy I have to manage to learn the…as my prof put it… “the more difficult grammatical structures of Latin”…great, I thought that’s what I butchered all of last semester trying to keep my 90% afloat.

Classical Studies/Art History 330. Oh yes, you read that correctly. In order to “be economical” the university decided to incorporate two HUGE classes into one year long class. Fuck. So now, while I fancifully dance through Latin and Astronomy, I get to memorize 3000 images along with their Greek names, artists and place. Seriously! I sit in class every morning in a nice fancy auditorium, that is apparently more financially important than being sane, from 9-10am and have a series of images shown to me that can range from roughly 30 up to 60 images a class. Yes, that’s almost one image per minute. Yes, I hate this class. However, aside from remembering that the “Apoxyomenos by Lysippos shows a shocking similarity to the Doryphoros of Polykleitos”, the class is somewhat interesting the prof somewhat attention-keeping. Still, two very different, heavy courses combined into one long one….Thank you UBC-you cheap bastards.

Classical Studies 313. Ah. The love of my life, the apple of my eye, the icing on my cake, the cheese to my macaroni, etc. Without my dear Classical Studies 313 I would be hanging by my shower rod. Carl Johnson is, hands down, my favorite prof!! I AM TOTALLY IN LOVE WITH HIM!! *In a perfectly platonic way of course* I SHOULD say that I am totally in love with his teaching method…or his encouragement to think for ourselves! Holy shit! Think for ourselves… in University…what is this nonsense…oh wait…it’s actual sense! Ahh, his class is like coming in from a horrendous torrential storm to a beautiful, quiet Zen garden. But, alas, the the bliss can only last so long and then it’s dashing out into the rain again! However, a little bit of sunshine is better than nothing! Thank you Carl.

I have finished.
